Low Back and Pelvis: Clinical Applications (A.L. Logan Series in Chiropractic Technique , No 3) Review

From Preface:
"This is the third in a series of texts conceived by Dr. A.L. Logan. The concept of these works is based on Dr. Logan's experience in teaching graduate and undergraduate clinical technique and offers a better way to approach the instruction of students.
This series started with the knee and followed with the foot and ankle, and now moves up into the pelvis and spine.
It is designed to be a working manual of clinical aspects in the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions. The illustrations are simple...Dr. Logan felt that simple line drawings can more accurately focus the emphsis needed."

Chiropractic: An Illustrated History Review

This is not a book I would have bought for myself so I was glad when a colleague gave it to me for my birthday. It is a fabulous book covering just about everything possible in the Chiropractic profession. Reading about the Anti-trust suit and all the other political struggles has truly re-enforced my deep love and respect for this great profession.
There are so many other natural cures that lost the political battle against the med/drug cartel i.e. Rife, Tesla just to name two. I think one of the reasons the profession survived is because we had a lot of Chiropractors who were good politicians along with a passion for healing that is surpassed by no other healing profession that I know. They also were able to humble themselves within the medical community in order to win the many political battles fought in all 50 states plus two (?) U.S. territories.
I am so proud to call myself a Chiropractor and will have undying respect for all those who came before me so that thousands of people are able to access the healing power of the spinal adjustment. A treatment that clearly relieves back pain but also affects the general health so people require fewer of the cut, burn and poison treatments.
You must read this book and then put it in your reception room so your patients can appreciate the magnitude of the privilege they have when they come into your office for their treatments.
P.S. A note to the authors: you left out the great state of Massachusetts in the chart that shows the year each state won their licensing struggle. It was 1966!!! Thank you Dr. Macdonald and all the other pioneers in this state who made this possible. It was truly a miracle.

Upper Cervical Subluxation Complex: A Review of the Chiropractic and Medical Literature Review

This book would have to be the most comprehensive gathering of literature concerning Upper Cervical Specific Chiropractic (UCSC), ever. You may need to know everything that has spawned in the literature since Dr BJ Palmer's controversial assertion that the upper cervical spine is the only place chiropractors will find a subluxation. You may just want to casually look up a paper written on the upper cervical spine's influence on health. The book is designed for either type of study. In fact, the beauty of this book is that you don't have to read it so much as refer to it. And for the busy clinician, that's all we can realistically expect.
UCSC is a specialty within chiropractic. As Dr Dan Murphy, DC states in the introduction, for a third of chiropractic's century as a profession "the predominant practice of chiropractic involved primarily the upper cervical spine". Yet, as the Australian experience reflects, it is very few in this country indeed that refrain from directing forces to areas other than C1.
This book is incredible . Everything I have encountered in my own endeavour to seek out anything scientific supporting what BJ was zealously advocating all those years ago, without any apparent evidence, is here. Any low-level writing, such as that of general digest publications, is tolerated well because the reader can look at references instantly to find out how to mentally categorise each opinion. This is a unique format; you don't have to sift through a reference list at the end to see if it was written in this decade, or if your scientific nemesis wrote it! Older papers are listed first, and editorial comment is distinctly defined from abstracts and text. What an enormous gap it fills on my bookshelf.
The only thing this book has not done is to explain the extremely limited uptake of UCSC amongst chiropractors in - and outside of - the USA; which, in turn explains the aching lack of research into large populations undergoing upper cervical chiropractic care, and it's impact on public health.
Yet, does it not make far more sense to discover the intricacies of the articulations of the skull base before any other region is attempted? If you answered yes, this book is for you. If "no", you still need to own it as a complete "chirocentric" literature review of the topic.

Spanish for the Chiropractic Office contains a collection of over 300 Spanish language commands, statements, and questions that help chiropractors and their staff better serve Spanish-speaking patients. No priof knowledge of Spanish is required to use this book. Practicing chiropractors and native Spanish-speakers have reviewed the book for authenticity and accuracy. The book and two CDs help chiropractors and their staff to communicate with Spanish-speaking patients; collect and give basic information regarding the patient and HIPAA; administer intake instructions and vitals; announce patient body positioning; conduct the doctor's exam (interviews, diagnostics, and reports); discuss x-rays and scans; describe, in detail, various treatments; explain adjustments and therapy; give patient discharge instructions; provide instructions for office dismissal; and much more.

Chiropractic: The Victim's Perspective (Consumer Health Library) Review

There are over forty one-star reviews of this book, likely from either chiropractors or patients who have strong belief in chiropractic. But the fact is that chiropractic is a hands-on method which strongly predisposes to a placebo effect. Now, I have found in myself that with certain back pains, I can do a swift rotational movement of my low back, create a popping sensation, and my back feels better. On the other hand, if I do gentle low back exercises and range-of-movement exercises, I can get the same benefit. It is my belief that muscle spasm causes some kind of disorder in the vertebrae that can be corrected by "popping" the joints. Relaxing the muscle tension imbalance is the key; otherwise you can keep popping the vertbrae just about every day, endlessly. Proper posture, relaxation, stress management, range of movement exercises, all of these are keys to spinal health.
Readers are also encouraged to read "Trick or Treatment" by Simon Singh and Edzard Ernst, MD, 2008, an outstanding book which evaluates various aspects of alternative medicine. It comes to similar conclusions as this book, and is a "must-read."
This book is very highly recommended reading; as mentioned by other reviewers, every person wishing to start chiropractic treatment must read this book. Aside from neck chiropractic, of which we need to be extremely wary, chiropractic is licensed by the States of the USA, and low back chiropractic for low back issues might be worth a try. But as to chiropractic for other ailments unrelated to the vertebral system, the patient embarks on such chiropractic at his or her own risk. Chiropractic for children for "health maintenance" ought to be outlawed. The founder of chiropractic is said to have cured a patient of wheezing by adjusting the spine, and this is very much an anecdotal report. Maybe he dislodged a foreign body in a bronchial tube!

Chiropractic: A Philosophy for Alternative Health Care Review

This is an outstanding textbook. In fact, it is the first attempt to really look at the fundamental philosophies of chiropractic. While many in the chiropractic profession may believe that there is a chiropractic philosophy, Dr. Coulter explains that in reality there are a few philosophies of chiropractic. This is much more than a semantic difference, it is one that is crucial to the understanding of what chiropractic is and is not. There are many books about the chiropractic profession that are written by those with an ax to grind on either side of the issue. From chiropractors whose zeal for the profession blinds them, to the anti-chiropractic zealots who possess equal blindness. Dr. Coulter is a sociologist who first became involved with the chiropractic profession while studying it from a sociological perspective. His thoughts on the philosophy of chiropractic are insightful for both chiropractors, other health care providers (conventional or alternative) and patients alike. For anyone who is really interested in understanding chiropractic, not to hear doctrine or dogma but from the standpoint of someone who is not a partisan rather a long term observer this is THE book to get.

National Board of Chiropractic Part IV Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers (Topics: Case Management & Technique Practical) Volume 2 Review

This is a great book for the Part IV chiropractic boards. The questions helped me to prepare for the type of questions on this exam. The questions in this study guide were of the type encountered on the boards. I would also highly recommend getting volume 1 because the x-ray portion is a big percentage on this exam. This book helped me to get ready for what would be asked in the patient history rooms and the adjustment rooms. Also, it showed me which orthopedic tests were heavily tested along with neuro packages. This is a must book, many of my chiropractic friends have used this book and also found it very helpful! I wouldn't go into the part 4 board without reviewing this book first.

The questions on the subject areas on physiology, spinal anatomy, microbiology, general anatomy, chemistry, etc. were on target. Anyone who feels the need to tear down a profession in an effort to elevate their own's has a problem. National Board of Chiropractic Part IV Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers (Topics: Diagnostic Imaging) Volume 1 Review

This is such a thorough study guide for the diagnostic imaging section of the boards. I used this book along with Yochums book,"Skeletal Radiology" and aced this portion of the boards. I was glad I used this book because it showed me the type of questions asked on this portion of the boards. In fact, about 50% of the part 4 boards is on diagnostic imaging if you count also the post-history and post-diagnostic rooms. The thing about this test that is insane is the short time limit you are given for each question. Without this book, I think I would have failed part IV because I would not know what to expect. I have to say I was a lot more calm when taking the test because I was ready for the type of questions that were being asked. This is a must book for anyone taking the Part 4 boards. It's better than spending well over $1000 plus traveling expenses to take the test again.

The New Chiropractic Cash Practice Survival Guide, Second Edition: How to Successfully Start-up or Convert Your Practice Review

This book is full of interesting material, on how to develop the practice, the ethics... However I was a little disappointed by the "poor mentality" expressed by the authors; they often relate to the lack of money and how they're always trying to get the cheapest and avoid expenses. I agree that it's important to look carefully over money matters, and that money is much more easily spent than it is owned, but I believe we can be very successful with an abundance mentality. Nevertheless, this is a book I recommend, filtering through the information that make most sense for each reader.

Technique Systems in Chiropractic Review

I am not aware of any book that covers the same subject matter. As the authors state from the outset, this book is not an advertisement for any of the techniques described in the book, but rather an honest attempt to describe them as they are. It covers the major techniques in chiropractic according to a common format, so that a patient, a chiropractic student, a chiropractor, or anyone else interested in chiropractic can figure out what it means to be treated using one technique as compared with another.
The writing is formal where it needs to be, but very casual and entertaining in places and in contexts where formality would have been more expected. For me, the best part of the book are the chapter introductions. There are anecdotes and personal observations that really make these techniques come alive, and give us a window into how this book came into being. Cooperstein and Gleberzon obviously love these techniques, even the ones where they could not contain their skepticism. It's all chiropractic to them.
Clearly, as authors, teachers, and researchers, they are in the middle of everthing going on in chiropractic.
The book is wierdly underpriced at about $45.00, a real steal.

Handbook of Clinical Chiropractic Care, Second Edition Review

The second edition of the Handbook of Clinical Chiropractic Care is a concise, quick-access handbook that covers the more common conditions seen in a chiropractic practice. Where possible, an evidence-based approach is presented, but it must be understood that a purely evidence-based practice is impossible to achieve in any form of health care. Instead the clinician must use the best available evidence, clinical experience and a "pinch" of intuition to manage his/her patients.
This is a handy reference that provides a library of practical information in a single volume! When you need fast, up-to-date information on specific treatment techniques such as orthopedic testing and contraindications for manipulation, or information to assist in analyzing test results, this is the first place to turn. Absolutely packed with charts, tables, and algorithms for quick reference.

Up and Running - Opening A Chiropractic Office Review

Running a chiropractic clinic requires both patient care and business skills. But chiropractic schools have mostly focused on teaching patient care, often neglecting the development of business skills. The graduating doctors then add the stress of unfamiliar practice life to the financial debt accumulated during their college years. Drs. Reizers fill that knowledge gap and extend exceptional-quality advice to doctors that are about to start their own practice.
Chiropractic office requires doctors to make strategic decisions about selecting specialization, clinic location, negotiating a lease, working with insurance companies, leasing or buying equipment, hiring other doctors, addressing specific kinds of patients, marketing, etc. Drs. Reizers' book teaches doctors how to make such decisions in an organized and systematic way, removing anxiety about the unknown and replacing it with solid knowledge earned during years of both running their own practices and teaching at a chiropractic college. Drs. Reizers did a remarkable job of exploring each topic with great detail and meaningful examples.
In summary, a doctor building a profitable chiropractic office must read Up and Running and return to it often for reference.

Practicing Profitability - Billing Network Effect for Revenue Cycle Control in Healthcare Clinics and Chiropractic Offices: Collections, Audit Risk, SOAP Notes, Scheduling, Care Plans, and Coding Review

Providers face complex billing problems in the stacked marketplace
that payers have created with their leading edge into large-scale
systems. In this cogent work, the author has integrated many
distributed systems concepts (e.g., Straight Through Processing,
Business Process Interoperability, Software as a Service, Network
effects, etc.) in ways that offer a practical process innovation to
address the cumbersome and risk-prone billing processes inherent in
the field of medical practice management. This book not only describes
an elegant software solution - the author also brings to life the

that help readers to understand as if they were given a tour through

The Chiropractic Way: How Chiropractic Care Can Stop Your Pain and Help You Regain Your Health Without Drugs or Surgery Review

In Early 1988 I was rear ended by a Semi Truck. I walked away. By that evening I was in a neck brace and stayed in it 2 weeks.
I went to the Medical Docs and they X-rayed, they did this and that, they said soft tissue injury to me a hundred times, but acted like they were looking into a glass darkly. They said lets try this and that too, and so we tried some of their favorite therapies and sent me to a Physical therapist too. They really had no clue and it showed.
At the PT I was doing as I was told, But It still hurt and it was not getting easier... My left arm had lost strength and dexterity despite all the treatment, Worse yet, the PT was not making things better in the real life I was accustomed to living, and I know my story is a lot like other peoples.
Dr. Lenarz became my Chiropractor. He told me that he felt I could be helped and that I would not have to become a slave to a medical procedure forever. He was very adamant about being Thorough and Accurate. He asked me to try his approach to becoming healthy and so I did. He was right. I got my arm's strength and dexterity back, I don't have problems with pain as I did, and I am not a slave to a medical procedure. No Pills. My Spine was helped back to health and I was too, It all works together.
I am not saying I am free of Chiropractors, I may need to check in with them a few times a year but we all go to dentists regularly too don't we? It is all part of staying Healthy.
My only regret in this story is that I moved away from where Dr. Lenarz has his Practice, and didn't persuade him to come along. He is a good, caring Doctor, and one of the straightest shooters you'll meet in any profession. 17 years later, thinking back, in my life he still is. You won't go wrong with his book.

Marketing Chiropractic to Medical Practices Review

I bought this book pre-ordered before it came out. I have read it, but since then I have to admit that I haven't put the ideas into action. One of the reasons is that my practice partner was launching his own campaign to market to medical doctors.
The author of this book is a chiropractor who had a practice that did not thrive nor receive many referrals despite her being located surrounded by medical offices. She then took on a sales job for a pharmaceutical company where she was taught and became accustomed to making sales calls to medical practices. After a couple of years, she then went back into chiropractic practice armed with the knowledge and experience of selling directly to MDs.
One of the challenges that many chiropractors face when approaching a medical practice is having the proper gambit to meet the doctor. This book shows you how to do that effectively. This book will also help you get over the initial fear of approaching a medical business by telling you exactly how solicitors are perceived by doctors and staff. Hint: It's different than with chiropractic doctors and staff. If you were looking to get over your apprehension of merely approaching a medical practice, get this book.
Once you get into a medical office, do you have answers to objections from medical doctors? This book is packed full of answers to objections that are structured diplomatically and will serve to help educate the MD. The author of this book took pains to gather latest research on commonly treated conditions in the chiropractic practice.
This book will not tell you how to spread the innate love to the community, or help you sigh in the comfort of some holistic, alternative philosophy. This book is about getting the bread and butter patients suffering from back pain, neck pain and headaches. And, you'll be getting them from the medical community.

In addition to covering chiropractic care techniques, it also discusses anatomy, biomechanics, and physiology, as well as spinal analysis and diagnostic procedures. Key scientific and philosophical issues within the chiropractic community are addressed. National Board of Chiropractic Part II Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers Review

I bought this book at my bookstore in chiropractic school since I found a lot of students using it for board prep. Neuromusculoskeletal Diagnosis and Chiropractic Practice sections were crucial in helping me pass the boards. The questions are all in sections and organized so you go and see what you need more study time in.

Instant Access to Chiropractic Guidelines and Protocols Review

This small paperbound book provides a basic overview of several spinal, extremity, and general health conditions in a self-described "at-a-glance" format. Each section includes information regarding definition, etiology, principle symptoms, exam findings, lab & radiographic findings, and management guidelines. The book does provide some helpful information, but in most cases lacks appropriate detail. Clinicians looking for a text that provides detailed etiologic, diagnostic, and management data will not be adequately informed by this text. Frankly, a few chapters are quite helpful. For example, the chapters (2) dealing with fibromyalgia are some of the best I've yet read on this condition, providing important and clinically useful descriptions of the condition and (most importantly) a detailed list and description of other conditions which need to be considered during patient work-up. But most sections are insufficiently detailed for proper diagnosis and management -- the data in these chapters is introductory at best. Chapters on scoliosis, adhesive capsulitis, ligamentous injuries of the knee, cervical soft tissue injuries, etc., do not thoroughly cover these subjects. What IS provided in most chapters is an overview -- helpful perhaps for someone already versed in the details of these conditions, but inadequate as a primary guide. Neither would this book provide adequate preparatory material for a challenging (such as an oral) board exam. In my professional opinion, this book makes some good contributions, but does not replace more detailed reference texts.

CHIROPRACTIC MARKETING TOOLS THAT WILL ABSOLUTELY GROW YOUR PRACTICE Review

This book -- Reizer's 5th (I think) -- gives tons of very practical and "do-able" advice on how to successfully implement the most cost-effective marketing tools in the modern chiropractic office. His books have always been valuable assets for chiropractors, whether they're new or have been in practice a long time. This one is even better than the others, if that's possible. Especially in difficult economic times, there is a definite need for effective marketing that doesn't break the budget.
I think the thing that sets Reizer's books apart is his very real desire to help doctors suceed, both for their own sake and the sake of the many patients they help.

The Well Adjusted Dog: Canine Chiropractic Methods You Can Do Review

This book is pretty good for the pet owner that is interested in the well being of their pet. I agree with other reviewers that the jargon used in this book may be difficult to understand if you are not familiar with chiropractic. The only downside to the book is a little bit of ranting and conspiracy theory done by the author that gets a little old, but it is not that big of a downer. Altogether, this is an excellent book and provides some excellent information.
